About Us

Harvard Square Eye Care was founded in 1961 by Dr. Richard Glugeth in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A respected optometrist, Dr. Glugeth became known for his innovative work with contact lenses and for the personal care he gave to patients. In 2002, the practice was taken over by Dr. Lauren Dickerman, a family member of Dr. Glugeth. Under her leadership, Harvard Square Eye Care expanded significantly, evolving from a single-location practice into a small network of modern, service-focused eye care centers.

The first major expansion came in 2007, when the practice opened a second location in Davis Square. This was followed by a Belmont location in 2015, and a fourth office on Martha’s Vineyard in 2022. These additions reflect Dr. Dickerman’s broader vision: to provide comprehensive eye care in convenient, community-based locations, while also emphasizing style, design, and high-quality optical products. The practice became known not only for its clinical excellence but also for its curated collection of fashionable frames and designer eyewear.

Harvard Square Eye Care’s flagship location remains at 19 Dunster Street, just steps from Harvard Yard. Over the years, the business has relocated some of its offices due to redevelopment—such as a move from Porter Square to Davis Square—but has remained committed to accessibility and continuity of care. It is also recognized as a preferred eye care provider for Harvard University affiliates. From its roots as a single-location clinic in the 1960s to a growing network of contemporary eye care centers, Harvard Square Eye Care has maintained a focus on innovation, patient-centered service, and timeless optical style.
